Why Kayak Fishing?

With a vision of teaching the science of fishing while actually putting the information together and getting on the water, Dr. Bill Harvey and Capt. Dean Thomas came together to develop the Texas Kayak Fishing School. These two realized the value of their individual specialties combined in professional presentation with adequate time to get to know the students would produce the best results plus provide the opportunity to get everyone’s questions addressed as they come up throughout the course and while fishing. Today Captain Dean teaches solo, holding classes in the spring and fall about eight times a year.

The Texas Kayak Fishing School is designed in a fashion that provides a lot of technical information in a way that is understandable and realistic, mixed with actual time on the water implementing and reinforcing what is taught in the classroom. This course covers fishing back-bay coastal waters with information that is both specific to the Redfish Bay/Lighthouse Lakes Trails area and applicable to any similar environment or shallow inland bay. This 3 day school is divided into two, half day classroom sessions and two, half days on the water trying out what you’ve learned.
